My First Book Giveaway!

16 11 2011

Ladies and gents!  Something exciting happened today.  I got a digital copy of Stephen King’s new title, 11/22/63.  I have not read the book myself, but I hear it’s great, with a 4.42/5 stars from Goodreads and a 4/5 from Amazon ratings.  This time travel novel sends a school teacher to stop the assassination (in the past, mind you) of JFK.  (You can read the official summary here.)

It’s Halloween. Mind your neck, beware the Dullahan.

31 10 2011

Happy Halloween, everybody!  May it be a spooky and outstanding day for everyone.

So I was having trouble deciding what monster would be worthy of posting for the last day of the countdown (Halloween Day itself), when I remembered a drawing I did a while back.  It’s not my best work, but it is one of my favorite monsters and a sketch I’ve been meaning to put up anyways.

Meet the Dullahan, the spine-whip wielding headless horseman from Irish folklore, inspiration of that decapitated horror that haunted dear Ichabod Crane and the rest of Sleepy Hollow.  A fitting spirit for such a day as today.

Happy Halloween.

Three Days ‘Til Halloween – Kerberus

28 10 2011

So I was looking through the monsters I’ve drawn recently and trying to decide what I should share next.  Maybe it’s a month old and on notebook paper–*GASP!*–however I felt I had to share this somewhat rough take on the Greek hellhound we all know and love.  My cousin asked me to draw him Cerberus, one of his favorite monsters from the Percy Jackson books.  I said sure, but only if I could put a little McGannon flare in there.

Which I did.

Ladies and gents, I give you, “KERBERUS“.

6 Days Til Halloween

24 10 2011

Just under a week left until Halloween, and another October has flown by!  This is by far my favorite time of year, but it all passes so darn quickly.

This week, I’d like to do a daily post of monsters in celebration of the scariest–and most fun–holiday of them all.

Let’s kick it off with, “The Beast!”

Finding the Heart

20 07 2011

‘Lo everyone!  If you keep up with my blog you’ve probably noticed the back and forth talk of my plans and schemes for future posts and features.  I won’t try to hide it, I don’t know exactly what I’m doing here.  I have many things I want to do, but what is it I need to do with this place?

Find the heart.  In trying to build my author platform, I’ve lost focus and gone all over the place with Wyvern’s Peak.  Just as we writers have to find our focus after a bout of writer’s block, I need to step back and remember what I started this blog for.

That said, I’ll try to keep from saying what I’m going to do for now, and instead I’ll just do what posts come to mind (or heart), if any at all.  Don’t expect a lot from me, I’m hard at work on two different series of books and hoping-praying-wishing-pushing for one of those books to be released later this year…which means lots of time spent writing, and less time on here.

However, I did promise a monster two weeks ago!  And I only got one vote, but that vote (from my Irish blooded dad!) won.  So here’s this week’s pencil sketched monster:  The drunken leprechaun! Read the rest of this entry »

Piscus!

6 07 2011

For this week’s sketch, I give you…Piscus!  (What is it?  Stop asking that!  I hardly ever know.)

So–with a completely irrelevant conversation change–this is another short week post for me.  Sorry folks, but writing comes first.  Still, I’m gathering up research topics for my time in between writing projects, and I want to know what you think is more interesting:  An eight headed dragon, a drunk leprechaun, or a spine wielding headless horseman?

Send your thoughts of which is most interesting in by comment or email.  Or if there’s another monster that piques your interest, send that instead.  When it comes to crazy monsters, I aim to please.

Seeya folks next week, possibly Monday.

Adieu!

Monsters R Us

29 06 2011

So, not surprisingly, the most visited posts on my blog deal with…

*dramatic drumroll*

MONSTERS.

HOO-rah!

I love monsters.  And so, with this recent surge of monster-related searches leading to Wyvern’s Peak, I’m happy to say there will be a few more monster/folklore related posts (than usual), and perhaps a new weekly feature to add to the blog.

As I’m finishing up a new round of rewrites this week, I’ll just leave you with a monster of my own mind…”The Multi“.  Be sure to check in next week, but don’t stick around too long today, aye?

ps.  If you’ve always wanted to know something about an obscure or even popular monster from folklore, mythology, modern media, etc., feel free to leave comments or contact me.  I’d love to share what I know and would be more than willing to do some research on some new monsters, if I haven’t heard of them already.  Seeya next week!
